Seriously I would rather get a sp-1200, I mean the 1200 hardly has anytime sampling time as it is.what i love about the 12 and 1200 is that you dont have to name your samples and save a bunch of different files like on an akai mpc. With the 1200 you just save your sequences and samples to a disk and presto its a million times more straight forward than an mpc which I still struggle with.600 euros ouch! If you just want some grit though why not pickup a s900 or s950 akai rack or emu emax and get that same crunch for next to nothing.
I cant even sell my s900 for $75 here in san francisco. And it's got great 12bit crunchI think the sp12 and sp1200 are definitely over priced but the sequencers are nice and got that funky swing if I make a beat on my 2000xl mpc with the same samples it sounds way better on the sp1200.
Um I like the solid mpc sequencer, it's way tighter than ableton live. And adding a touch of swing is kick a.s. I do think there is something special about the sp-1200 swing it seems a little diff than the mpc2000xlThe trick is run you beat at double speed like 190 bpm instead of 80bpm for example and that is how you get that gangsta swing if you're running at a low bpm like 80-120 the swing sounds too muchI'm about to sell my sp1200 in an hour, I want to purchase a mint sp-1200 reissue in perfect working shape even it costs a bunch more, that is how much I like it.

Keep the track muted then when you need to reload the data you have it in a session1200 just has 3.5 floppy more sample time over the 12.What becomes a huge PITA is having a whole bunch of disks from all the samples sets songs etc. With the 12 having the cassette out you don't deal with as many disks.Also with the 12 you can have literally hundreds of sample sets saved in your computers daw as audio tracks. Then when you need to load them just use cassette in.

I'd love to have an sp12 for all the points you mentioned, but if the going rate is £600. It seems more sensible to get an mpc2000(xl) and an s950 as you guys mentioned - it would be a lot cheaper! I'm gonna have to think a bit about this. Thanks for all the input guys.
